Thomas Jefferson School of Law has a network of over 5000 alumni.  This list represents a small fraction of graduates in the San Diego area.  All are eager to hear from you and would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the school, areas a specialties, and why they chose to attend Thomas Jefferson.  

Guided Tour of the Law School

We a happy to provide guided tours of the Law School. Admitted students are invited to RSVP for a 30-minute tour of the law school and have the opportunity to see the campus. Tours are available on select days between 9:00am and 3:00pm. RSVP is required. Guests must wear facial coverings. Tour capacity is limited to admitted student plus 2 guests (3 persons total). Select the "guided tour" option at the bottom of the page and we will follow up to arrange the visit.

Virtual Admitted Student Open House  

This is a chance for you to see why our TJSL community would be the perfect fit for you. We hope that you tune in for this event. On Saturday, December 11, 2021, we will host a Virtual Open House from 10:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. This will give you the opportunity to hear from Dean Linda Keller, and other key faculty and administrators from the offices of Financial Aid, Career Services and Student Affairs which handles questions regarding exam accommodations, housing and health insurance. You will also hear from Directors of the Fellowship Programs (Criminal Law and Intellectual Property, Entertainment & Sports Law) as well as notable alumni. Have questions? You are encouraged to participate ask questions throughout the event.

We also invite you to enjoy learn more about the advantages and opportunities available to our students by watching seven videos prior to the event. The videos are below. In the videos, we cover many of the major topics admitted students are interested in, ranging from the financial aid process, to tips from faculty for succeeding in law school, to a mock class.

Virtual Ask Me Anything Forums

AMA Forums are targeted at answering admitted students questions and concerns. Each forum will focus on a particular aspect of being a law student.

Affordable Housing Advocates

We provide free legal services to low income tenants in individual and impact affordable housing and tenants' rights cases.

AHA is a nonprofit, public benefit corporation and a qualified legal services project, supported in part by grants from the State Bar of California Legal Services Trust Fund Program.

Our website contains information on when and how to apply for clerkships and internships.  Please have students visit www.affordablehousingadvocates.org.

California Innocence Project

The California Innocence Project (CIP) is a law school clinical program at California Western School of Law.  CIP provides pro bono legal assistance to inmates in cases where DNA testing of evidence or discovery of new non-DNA evidence can yield conclusive proof of innocence.  The Project has successfully fought to reverse the convictions of 11 innocent men in California who collectively served a total of more than 100 years in prison.

CIP hires volunteers to work in its office during each trimester.  This is a valuable experience for anyone interested in criminal law or post-conviction law.  Hours are flexible (5-35 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm).      

Primary duties are to:
•        Evaluate the correspondence and questionnaires from inmates so that CIP can respond appropriately.
•        Write evaluative memoranda summarizing case files and recommending whether or not CIP should continue to investigate the claim on grounds of factual innocence.
•        Assist CIP staff with legal research.

The California Innocence Project is a law school clinical program dedicated to releasing wrongfully convicted inmates and providing an outstanding educational experience to the students enrolled in the clinic. Students work alongside CIP staff attorneys on cases where there is strong evidence of factual innocence. Our work protects the integrity of the justice system and seeks to provide justice for all.

Founded in 1999 at California Western School of Law, the California Innocence Project (CIP) reviews more than 2,000 claims of innocence from California inmates each year.

California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc.

Attorneys of Senior Legal Services are able to advise about a wide range of legal issues, including financial elder abuse, landlord/tenant problems, contractual disputes, consumer issues, and benefits problems. We are also able to prepare some documents such as simple wills, Advance Healthcare Directives, and Powers of Attorney.

Elder Law & Advocacy's Senior Legal Services provides free legal services to residents of  San Diego over the age of 60. The basic service provided to our senior population consists of a 30 minute counsel and advice session with an attorney licensed in the State of California.

Utility Consumers' Action Network

A typical day for an intern would be fielding calls from consumers who dispute bills and services from telephone, cable or internet service providers, and then calling company representatives trying to obtain relief for consumers with disputes.  Then an intern would help prepare and write protests, responses and/or a brief in UCAN cases before the California Public Utilities Commission, and then perhaps end the day by helping draft a Public Records Act request to a local governmental agency seeking information on rates and charges billed to their customers.

UCAN has represented the interests of San Diego County utility customers since 1983. UCAN focuses its efforts on the rates and services of San Diego Gas and Electric Company, telecommunications utilities and the City of San Diego Water Department. We do this by intervening in legal proceedings before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), by supporting litigation in court cases, and by helping individual utility customers with problems they are having with their utility bills and services.

UCAN advocates on behalf of San Diego area utility consumers. UCAN focuses primarily on electricity and natural gas utilities, municipal and private water utilities, and telecommunications companies.

Voices for Children

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:  Voices for Children advocates for foster youth through a network of trained volunteers who are empowered by the court to become experts about their case children.

By developing a one-on-one relationship with their appointed child they are able to understand their concerns and fears, and in many instances they are the only stable and consistent adult presence in the life of a foster child. Much more than just a mentor, volunteers also make recommendations to the court on the best course of action for the child.
