KABA Scholarship
Anthony Kim

Congratulations to Anthony N. Kim, a third-year student at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, for receiving KABA-SD’s Annual Student Scholarship Award. KABA-SD, the acronym for the Korean American Bar Association of San Diego, presented Kim with a $1,000 scholarship during its Annual Dinner and Installation of Officers on September 15th.  The scholarship, funded by the generosity of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton LLP, is intended to help soon-to-graduate students defray the costs of taking the California Bar Examination. “This scholarship is meaningful to me, not only because it will help defray the costs of taking the bar, but because it comes from an organization I hold in high esteem” Kim said.  “It also reminds me of the great people in my life who have made it possible for me to win such an award.” At the dinner, Kim was praised for having worked with a broad range of organizations as well as for having won several academic awards, including making the Distinguished Honor Roll at TJSL.  The highly-involved student has interned for the Constitutional Court of Korea, the Employee Rights Center, the Office of the Primary Public Defender and the San Diego Superior Court, while also having served as an editor for the Thomas Jefferson Law Review. KABA-SD brought recognition to Kim’s success outside of the legal field as well.  He is part of a hip-hop music group that has appeared in music videos and various media outlets including MTV Iggy, AngryAsianMan.com and OC Weekly.  Though Kim’s commitments appear to keep him busy, he still finds time to give back to his community. His musical talents have led him to perform for several worthy causes, including fundraisers for homeless children, the Haiti earthquake relief and the Filipino-American Film Festival.  The Korean American Bar Association of San Diego provides Korean American attorneys and law students in the San Diego area the opportunity to network as well as offering legal, educational, political, charitable and other services to the Korean American community in San Diego.  KABA-SD also works to advance Korean Americans in the legal system here in San Diego and nationally. Thomas Jefferson School of Law has shown its support of KABA-SD as a Silver Sponsor of its Annual Dinner. TJSL student Paul Eum will serve a second consecutive term as TJSL’s representative on the KABA-SD Board for 2011-2012.
