The Lawyers Club of San Diego honored Kimberly Coulter (2L) as the fourth recipient of the Lawyers Club Women and the Law Project at Thomas Jefferson School of Law Scholarship on Thursday, December 12th at the Lawyers Club annual Holiday Luncheon at the Westin San Diego.

TJSL Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Linda Keller introduced Coulter, who was one of three San Diego law students to receive a $2,000 scholarship.

“I am overjoyed to have been selected for this honor!” expressed Coulter. “I believe Lawyer's Club chose me to represent all of the moms (and dads!) who are coming back to school later in life to better themselves for their families. It takes a lot of strength to switch careers, especially when you have the responsibility of young children.”

TJSL established the scholarship in 2010 in collaboration with Lawyers Club to recognize a TJSL student in the top 50 percent of his/her class who demonstrates support of the mission of Lawyers Club.

Before law school, Coulter worked in the corporate world, taught elementary school, and became a full-time stay at home mother to her three young children. “Just a few years ago I was a stay at home mom in a world full of diapers and play dates and back then the possibility of attending law school did not seem attainable,” said Coulter.

“With the encouragement of my husband, I decided that fulfilling my dream of becoming a lawyer could come true if I wanted it badly enough. While it was scary to transition back to academia, my success in law school, including receiving this scholarship honor, has been a great reminder that despite the challenges of juggling motherhood with law school, I am exactly where I should be,” she added.

Past scholarship recipients include Catrina Skor '11, Elizabeth Knowles '12, and Amy Louttit '13.

Congratulations Kimberly from everyone at TJSL!
