TJSL’s Washington, D.C. area alumni kicked off 2012 with great energy and camaraderie at the Petits Plats restaurant on January 5. Dean Rudy Hasl, along with 14 faculty and staff members who were in the area to participate in the Annual AALS Conference, greeted and updated the dynamic group of alumni.
Representing class years from 1988 to 2011, the alumni group had many exciting stories to share about professional successes, personal growth, and working for the government. Veterans Christopher Winslow ‘06 and Sheila Bryant ‘99 met overseas several years ago while both serving the country and were able to reconnect at the reception. TJSL couples Christie Edwards ‘07 and LL.M. graduate Oussama Bachraoui ’09, as well as Hallie Tremaine Balkin ‘10 and Alex Balkin ‘11 moved to the D.C. area after graduation.
Susie Lorden ‘08 commented, “It had been a while since I was in contact with anyone from TJSL, and seeing some of my favorite professors and fellow alumni reminded me of how important it is to maintain both professional and personal contacts. I was pleasantly surprised at how many TJSL alumni are in the D.C. area, and I look forward to meeting more of them, especially since I am new to the area.”
"It was wonderful to see how many TJSL alumni are in the area and to visit with some old friends," said Elika Naraghi ’05. “The event was a lot of fun.”
Beyond the success of the reception, Lorden is enthusiastic to create an active D.C. Alumni Group. Informal happy hours and professional networking are some of the services that Lorden’s leadership will create.
