Professor Shawn Tafreshi is a Deputy District Attorney supervisor with the San Diego Office of the District Attorney. While at Loyola Law School, Professor Tafreshi served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Loyola International and Comparative Law Review where he became a published author. Professor Tafreshi also served as a Judicial Extern to the Honorable Kim McLane Wardlaw of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
While at the District Attorney’s Office, Professor Tafreshi has developed an expertise in complex homicide litigation. Moreover, he is a statewide and local lecturer in topics related to Legal Ethics, Trial Practice, Homicide, Criminal Procedure, STEP Act, Grand Jury Practice and Sentencing. Professor Tafreshi has been recognized by the San Diego Deputy District Attorneys Association and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors with the Outstanding Achievement Award in Prosecution for his trial work related to several cold case murders.
Professor Tafreshi’s passion for education started early while working as a teacher at a school specializing in helping young children with learning disabilities. Professor Tafreshi continued to work with children as a mentor for Big Brothers and Sisters of San Diego. Professor Tafreshi has been actively engaged in youth tutoring and mentorship programs for new lawyers. He is a frequent school speaker regarding the dangers of negative peer influences and youth crime. For over a decade, Professor Tafreshi has been a devoted high school mock trial coach. Since 2015, he has taught Evidence at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law by using a real-world jury trial perspective. He cares deeply about his student's professional development as they progress towards a career in the law.
