Joy Delman

Professor Delman has a varied background in civil litigation with an emphasis in medical malpractice. While at law school, she was editor of the American Criminal Law Review. After graduation she was selected for a judicial clerkship in Pennsylvania. Upon completing her clerkship, she worked in a large Philadelphia firm, where she specialized in medical malpractice litigation. Moving to San Diego, she joined the litigation department of the city’s largest law firm. Professor Delman also served as counsel to a medical products corporation.

Since she joined the faculty, she has served as faculty advisor to the Law Review, Society of Law and Medicine, student chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, and Law Students for Reproductive Justice. She is a member of the American College of Legal Medicine. She was a national lecturer for a major bar review, served on the Advisory Board of the Lawyer’s Alliance for Nuclear Arms Control, and is on the Board of Directors of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest. Professor Delman is very involved in reproductive rights. She teaches the only law school course on Reproductive Justice in San Diego. Professor Delman has been listed in Who’s Who in American Women.

Professor Delman’s recent scholarship has been in the area of concussion litigation. She presented a paper on Concussion Litigation at the American Academy of Neurology, as well as one on Concussions in Youth Sports at a Continuing Legal Education seminar on Concussion Litigation. She participated in the Thomas Jefferson School of Law conference Gladiators in the 21st Century: Violence and Injuries in the Athletics, and will be a presenter at the upcoming Sports Law and Policy Conference at Thomas Jefferson School of Law.
