Randy K. Jones is Partner at Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo, PC where he specializes in commercial and business litigation, corporate investigations, and white collar defense matters. Mr. Jones also represents public and private companies and high-profile individuals in state and federal investigations.
Prior to joining Mintz Levin, Mr. Jones served in the United States Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of California in San Diego for more than 28 years. A veteran trial attorney and litigator, Mr. Jones has tried dozens of federal cases to verdict before juries involving white-collar fraud schemes, financial crimes, complex drug conspiracy cases, immigration and violent crime matters, and has successfully negotiated guilty pleas in hundreds of other criminal cases. Mr. Jones has worked closely with state and federal law enforcement agencies, and has experience in the area of securities fraud, tax fraud, bankruptcy fraud, mail and wire fraud, Hobbs Act, trademark violations, and compliance matters.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, Mr. Jones began his legal career as a member of the United States Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he distinguished himself as an outstanding trial lawyer and highly regarded legal advisor. During his active duty military service, Mr. Jones tried numerous military member (jury) trials and provided expert legal advice and staff assistance to senior United States Navy officers and executives on a wide variety of military, domestic, and international legal matters. Mr. Jones served on active duty and in the reserves for 29 years until his retirement (in 2011) with the rank of Commander.
Mr. Jones has received numerous awards and honors, including being named “Lawyer of the Year” and “Top 100 Lawyers in California” by California Lawyer Magazine.
Mr. Jones remains very active in the community. He serves as trustee of the Francis Parker School and was the chairman of the board of trustees for the Thomas Jefferson School of Law from 2011 through 2017. Mr. Jones has served as chairman of the board of directors for the following organizations: the National Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Association; Neighborhood House Association; San Diego Food Bank; YMCA of San Diego County; Jackie Robinson Family YMCA; Southeast Development Corporation; LEAD San Diego Graduate Council; and the University of North Carolina General Alumni Association. In addition, Mr. Jones has served as past president of the National Bar Association and the Earl B. Gilliam Bar Association of San Diego, and was a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service, the California State Bar Ethnic and Minority Relations Committee, and he served as a Fellow of the ABA Business Law Section.
Mr. Jones is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, and the United States Court of Military Appeals.
